Following a severe flash flood in July of 2019, the Fenway Road culvert structure collapsed unexpectedly due to overtopping of the roadway. WRMA performed emergency hydraulic modeling services while developing a fast-tracked replacement solution for the failed culvert pipe with a new 72-inch Steel Reinforced Polyethylene culvert pipe.
The WRMA design team assisted with the collection of topographic and hydraulic data and developed 1-D hydraulic HEC-RAS model to delineate the proposed floodplain and evaluate the hydraulic performance of the new culvert. WRMA also prepared a floodplain delineation study and submitted a floodplain district permit to the DPS Montgomery County Floodplain Administrator.
