Summer 2024 Engineering Internship

WRMA is seeking resumes of individuals currently enrolled in a technical course of study at a College, University or Vocational School located within the United States of America to work as a summer intern during the Summer of 2024, at our Tequesta, FL office location, beginning and ending on or about, May 1, 2024 – July 31, 2024.  The start and ending dates of the internship are flexible depending on the successful applicant’s home institution academic calendar and/or other relevant factors. 

Applicants for this summer paid engineering internship opportunity should have a strong interest in the various disciplines of engineering.  Given that the internship will primarily involve training and project experience within the discipline of civil engineering, students enrolled in a 4-year Civil or Environmental Engineering program are preferred.  Students enrolled in a vocational school or community college program that focuses on engineering technology, science and/or Computer Automated Drafting and Design (CADD) are also preferred for this opportunity.

Successful applicants will be available to work a minimum of 40 hours/week at our Tequesta, FL or Hialeah, FL office location during the period beginning on or about May 1, 2024 through July 31, 2024

Previous work experience in a technical field is not a requirement for this temporary summer paid internship.

The ideal applicant must be able to communicate effectively and possess strong organizational skills and the ability to consistently document their activities throughout the duration for the projects he/she may be involved in.  

The successful applicant(s) will be assigned a mentor who will serve as the intern’s supervisor for the duration of the internship.  A mentor will assign the intern specific tasks and training exercises and provide support and assistance to the intern.  The objective of the internship is to provide the intern with experience working in a civil engineering practice with hands-on experience on real ongoing projects using the most advanced engineering software and tools available.  At the conclusion of the internship, the student shall have a strong entry level grasp of numerous engineering software applications and shall have a well-rounded understanding of the phases of the engineering project lifecycle.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interpret instructions for specifically assigned engineering or data management tasks assigned by an engineering mentor or supervisor.
  • Data collection, entry, verification, and management.
  • Provides support for client meetings.
  • Participate in technical training or professional development.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Able to work independently and as part of a project team.
  • Ability to operate a camera or camera phone and/or tablet.
  • Ability to operate a desktop computer with a Windows 10/11 operating system using a manually operated mouse.
  • Excellent organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Ability to write clearly with descriptive details.
  • Excellent communication, data management, technical writing, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Microsoft Office experience is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record.
  • Experience operating and driving an automobile.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Currently enrolled at a community college and/or four-year college or University in either a technical program or engineering program;
  • OR Currently enrolled at a vocational school in either a technical program or an engineering program.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to stand, bend, sit, lift, and drive.

WORK AUTHORIZATION

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States of America

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security pre-employment background check
  • Must be willing to participate in an Employment Eligibility Verification through the Department of Homeland Security E-Verify system

PAY CLASSIFICATION

  • Hourly (40 Hours/Week Minimum), Non-Exempt, Not Eligible for Benefits, Temporary Summer Employment to commence on or around May 1, 2024 and terminating on or around July 31, 2024.
