Engineering Design Technician


WRMA is seeking resumes of qualified individuals experienced in Computer Automated Drafting and Design (CADD) to work on a Part-Time or Full-Time basis as an Engineering Design Technician.  The ideal candidate will have experience in providing CADD design support for various types of civil engineering design projects and a robust understanding of site design and layout of linear infrastructure such as pipeline and roadways.  Additionally, the candidate must have a diverse set of skills and fundamental knowledge in areas relating to land and site grading, stormwater best management practices and environmental compliance. 

The candidate must be able to communicate effectively with project managers, possess strong organizational skills and the ability to consistently document their activities throughout the duration for the projects he/she may be involved in.  Ideal candidates will have a strong understanding of geo-spatial data (GIS) formats.

The candidate should be able to work independently on specific task assignments or work collaboratively as a member of larger design team assigned to perform multiple tasks or functions.

The selected design technician will be assigned design tasks in CADD, and therefore must have a strong understanding and previous project experience working in CADD software programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform design and drafting of engineering design plans and prepare construction documents within drafting software programs such as AutoCADD Civil 3D or Microstation OpenRoads.
  • Data collection, entry, verification, and management.
  • Tracks deadlines/team progress against approved schedules and ensures consistency with engineering specifications and standards.
  • Prepares and assists with invoicing and supporting documents/receipts.
  • Provides support for client meetings.
  • May be required to attend meetings at offsite locations.
  • Participate in technical training or professional development.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Able to work independently and as part of a project team.
  • Ability to operate a camera or camera phone and/or tablet.
  • Ability to operate a desktop computer with a Windows 10/11 operating system using a manually operated mouse.
  • Excellent organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Ability to write clearly with descriptive details.
  • Excellent communication, data management, technical writing, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Microsoft Office experience is preferred.
  • Work remotely or in an office setting.
  • Travel occasionally to locations throughout the state of Florida for short periods of time.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record.
  • Experience operating and driving an automobile.
  • Ability to efficiently operate and perform assigned design tasks within a prescribed time period using one or more of the following computer software programs:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High-School Diploma / GED
  • One or more years of prior (or current) community college and/or four-year college level course work (Current Part-Time College Students Welcome to Apply)
  • One or more years of related experience required in either a technical field or an engineering field with preference given to candidates with experience in civil-site design services or civil infrastructure-oriented project work.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to traverse over unpaved and/or wooded areas on undeveloped and developed properties, in a variety of weather conditions (long hours, inclement weather, heat, humidity, cold, biting insects).
  • Must be able to stand, bend, sit, lift, and drive.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

WORK AUTHORIZATION

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States of America

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security pre-employment background check
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening
  • Must be willing to participate in an Employment Eligibility Verification through the Department of Homeland Security E-Verify system

PAY CLASSIFICATION

  • Part-time Hourly (Up to 20 Hours/Week Maximum or As Needed), On Call Hourly (As-Needed), Non-Exempt, Not Eligible for Benefits*
  • Full-Time Hourly (40 Hours/Week Minimum), Non-Exempt, Eligible for Benefits*
