La Gorce Country Club Clubhouse Drainage Flooding Assessment
La Gorce Country Club, Miami Beach, FL
The La Gorce Country Club is an upscale Tennis and Golf Course facility located in the City of Miami Beach, Florida.
Problem: Per a previous property condition assessment of the Clubhouse performed by Criterium Inspection Engineers (CIE), recurring flooding of a clubhouse balcony was documented.
Solution: WRMA was retained by CIE to assess the source of the flooding and provide retrofit drainage design, plans and specifications.
WRMA conducted a detailed guided tour of the clubhouse facilities and identified drainage deficiencies. The La Gorce Country Club main east balcony had been experiencing flooding of the open patio area due to a malfunctioning rooftop drainage system. Although inlets had been provided to collect the letdown discharge, the floor drain inlets were not appropriately sized for the quantity of stormwater runoff generated by the main clubhouse’s roof. A field inspection of the lawn area immediately in front (west) of the patio yielded an inlet grate with a box discharging from the building.
Based on observations from the inspection, WRMA recommended that the downspouts be re-sized and replaced. It was strongly recommended that two additional downspouts be added to the East roof gutter to increase the conveyance capacity of the roof gutter system. The exact configuration, size and discharge points of the downspouts were to be determined upon a detailed review of the existing as-built drawings in phase 2 of the project.
